New Year's Resolutions

So today is the day. New year, new you! You can do anything today!

You can start a healthy lifestyle, vow to read more, work on being nicer, being more organized, or anything you think you need to do!

How do you do it?

1. Seek accountability.

Find someone or a group of people and tell them your goals. This will make you more accountable to someone other than yourself. After my first son was born, I had a group of online moms who helped me lose that baby weight. Their support was amazing, the 25 year old metabolism helped too.

2. Pick a date.

Putting a deadline or at least a check in on your goals is proven to help you fulfill them. We all want to reach our goals, but we need timelines.

3. Make mini goals.

Sometimes we have to chunk our goals to avoid burnout. You need some wins throughout your journey to keep you motivated. Many people will use small rewards. Some will just use a visual tracker to see progress. There are tons of ways to do this. You can track on a chart, you can use a notebook or planner, you can even just let your phone do it. Check out Beebom's recommendations for 2017, I just like that you can see the screenshots.

4. Expect failures.

We're all human. We will fail at times, as long as you continue moving forward, it's all a win. I have fallen into the trap of "well, I already messed up today/this week, I'll just relax." This is insane. We are in this to be better humans. We have to progress, not be perfect all of the time.

5. Be gentle with yourself.

Yes, you will stumble, you might even fall, but as long as you don't give up, you're winning. Sorry for the run on sentence. I know this sounds like #4, but honestly. Expecting failure and dealing with those set backs are wholly different. When it does happen, remember, you can always move forward. Remember, you wouldn't slash the other 3 tires if you got a flat, would you? Don't sabotage yourself if you slip, or heaven forbid, need a day off. It's ok, this is a lifestyle now, not just a challenge.

Now, get out there and change your world. Who knows, you might change everyone's world! In the comments below, tell me, what's your goal this year?
